Proposals Windward Gate and Early Finish

Sun, 10/05/2025 - 14:28

In preparation for the WMG in November in Auckland, I am sending you two proposals:

- Windward Gate for Open and Classic, by Darren Bandock (AUS)
- Early Finish Concept for Open only, by Rainer Bohrer (GER)

On these two topics we are suggesting test trails in the next three events (Worlds and Continental Championships), starting in Spain and USA 2026. For this, we need your positive vote of the presidents at the upcoming WGM.

Considering the hopefully positive outcome of the test we would to make necessary adjustments and decide with the members on the adaptation on the Championship Rules (not expected before 2027/2028).

We already discussed the proposals in the IACA Committee. Darren in particular has given great and the most input. And there are already some positive experiences from national regattas. Particularly in Australia, the Top Gate has proven itself for years and is most widely supported. The experiences from the last Worlds and the Meta Sail data from Punta Ala have also shown that an Early Finish concept to reduce waiting time and DNF entries would also be very positive for the entire Open fleet.

The IACA Committee believes that these changes can make our major events more efficient and more up-to-date.

The text of the proposals is attached below. SACA members should now have received a link to cast their votes. If you did not receive an email, your email address might be missing, contact Jean-Yves and me with an updated and valid email.

On behalf of the SACA Committee : Charles Bueche
